Well, I personally started thinking about my bug out bag some time in late April of this year. Since then I would pick up an item here or there and shove it into my stash. If needed my bug out location is approximately 2-3 days away on foot depending on what shape and mood I am in.
Before I start the show and tell, here are a couple of comments. I know everyone is going to start shouting, dude where is your navigation equipment? I am sorry I forgot to picture them, but they are in the bag (topographic map of area, compass + Thermometer and signal mirror). Also, I forgot to picture my first aid kit, but I will post that up soon. It is not very large but it has everything I care to carry.
I am now currently working on getting some good under-armour clothes together; I got the underwear and shirts. This is my favorite brand because it is the easiest to layer, comes in standard and camouflage, packs extremely small in size, and stays very dry and warm or cool.

Enough chit-chat lets start the show:
This is the weaponry I am thinking of right now, for heavy rifle I might opt to take my AR-15. I am hoping that all I will need is the 9mm though, anyway, lots of ammo for all of them already stocked up. In this picture, one of the magazines for the AK is a 40 rounder, and I have two more 30’s not pictured. The 9mm only has two magazines 16 rounds each. I have a polypro facemask that eliminates scents also, and stays dry and very warm. Some Nomex gloves without fingers (I need to get finger ones) and a diamond sharpner.

The Bag is a Camelbak Motherlode with a 3 liter NBC hydration bladder. The sleeping bag is really pissing me off because it is so large but I just pack it on with bungie chord. I live in the desert and it gets really cold at night so it’s a 15 degree bag weighing 2lbs 5 oz. but packs so huge (any help on this area would be appreciated). The tent is a little less than 3lbs and fits two large men with gear and is awesome, I have used it in all 4 seasons.
This next one has my Katadyn Pocket filter (the best damn water filter in the world, on a side note, I should also have some tablets just incase). My Garmin Etrex Vista is in here and I love it because of its 36 hour battery life and internal compass. I have 50 feet of parachord, a whistle and the must have deck of cards. I like both of the survival manuals so I am taking them both, and who knows when they might serve as tinder.
The cutting edge stuff is next, pun intended, okay I’ll shut up. I got the standard USMC KA-BAR. The Leatherman Charge TTi is the most awesome thing ever; with the S30V clip-point and the titanium handles (I added a pocket clip). I have the two paraframe gerbers also, the mini and the paraframe II with titanium nitride coating (good beat around knives).
And he said let there be light… Well we have the 3 watt LED Maglight that requires the three AA batteries. The Energizer headlight, which is the best headlight I have ever used in terms of brightness and beam focus, but is a little fragile. My old pen light from when I used to work as a computer technician. My new 20 lumens black microstream streamlight; the best damn light that uses only one AAA, but sadly lasts for only 1.5 hours. I need to get some more batteries, and I also have one of those rechargeable hand crank ones with the radio and compass and all that junk, but it is so not bright, I guess I will take it just incase.
The fire starting stuff, is just an Esbit stove and some fuel. Three lighters and one Coleman butane jet torch with fuel. Two 9 hour emergency candles and a magnesium fire starter with knife attached. I am thinking about getting one of those optimus or brunton multifuel stoves, and I would appreciate some comments on a good lightweight pot.

Last but not least the food. I got 4 freeze dried meals that keep me real full, and six packs of potted meat. I am going to add some granola bars to the mix, but I am only two days away through the mountains but you never know.

Some after thoughts though, I have a good poncho and emergency blankets and junk like that in my first aid kit. I also have a bunch of different medicines for nausea, allergies and stuff like that. I had one legal question though, I had surgery and my doctor prescribed me 180 tablets of 10 mg oxycodone, 60 tablets of 10 mg diazepam for muscle relaxing and 60 tablets of 25mg promethizine for nausea. I never used any of it because I did not need it. All of them are in their respective prescription bottles and they seem like they would be useful to have in an emergency situation. Would I get in trouble carrying them around if it has been more than six months since my surgery. Is it legal and do they still work, or should I just toss em?
Anyway, thanks in advance for all the comments and take care.
